CONFUSED,……PERPLEXED…….? Are we really confused? Why, what are the causes of our confusion? The SARS, or the intensity of the heat waves? We the great humanity is confused & perplexed at the sudden happening and appearance of things, which is making life uncomfortable and miserable. But we, the same humanity are not confused in our own activities. We, the humanity is not confused when we deforest the land, denude the hills and hillocks, even completely uproot the hills, use the rocks to built houses and offices which, in fact, couldn’t protect us at all. We, humanity are so civilized that we do not understand the spirit of the Earth. Why is there a valley, why is there a hill & a hillock, why is there a grass hill or why is there a patch of forest trees, who created them and why and for whom? We expect the coolness of a tree’s shade on the same spot where a tree used to stand which we have cut. Very confusing, is not it? We are so powerful that we can change the topography of the land with our powerful technological creations, we could make things disappear in no-time, which have been there for hundreds of thousands of years, but could do nothing to stop SARS, we could do nothing to stop heat waves. Why can’t we have an air-conditioner, a giant air-conditioner to keep the Earth cool or hot as per our wish, why can’t we have methods to prevent diseases and miserable deaths? Are we not CONFUSED at the effects only, not those caused by us, the great humankind? We are powerful, who could stop us doing anything, but we are most powerless to stop our own suffering. Very confusing is not it? The word confusing is a word of excuse for us. Page - 48 When we do not wish to face the situation, when we do not wish to analyse the causes of effects, by our own mindless activities; you see, I am confused, we are confused, completely forgetting our own actions, and than following some artificial procedures to alter things with huge amounts of funds in lifesaving projects, and we are great, and we are so great that we do not need to turn towards Mother Nature. Let the Nature & Environmental protection groups and individuals go on howling at us, we are not to bother about the facts of the truths of the elements, we are made of, this whole world is made of, we are above it, Nature is there to please us, our whims, is it not ….. are these happening? We can go, destroy the surrounding & natural world but nature should preserve us and conserve us, how strange, is it not ? Something can act only if it has a presence; if there is a tree it can provide us with shade, but after cutting the tree for our need, we stand at the same spot and are upset about the effect of the midday sun on us…..that is more confusing for nature……than us. We should look thoughtfully at a patch of land covered with wild grasses and trees and a patch of land with nothing but flying dust, decide what should be our duty to do as the only rational being on Earth. Again and again it is the feeble voice of the few, like me, to tell humanity to turn towards Mother Nature. Let us cover the earth-bed with these tiny plants called weeds to bear the heat for us. Don’t we know that these only have the capacity to do so? And who is asking to do it free…..in this era of give and take,…..these WEEDS have forever living secret recipes in their tiny existence, for us, the Humanity. Page - 49 Bacopa monnieri (Linn.) Pennell (Monniera cuneifolia Michx.) (Herpestis monniera (Linn.) H.B. and K.) Of he family Scrophulariaceae This bitter-sweet-astringent-cooling weed grow throughout the Indian subcontinent, popularly known as:
A spreading or creeping glabrous annual herb weed with numerous ascending branches; leaves simple, opposite, decussate, sessile, obovate-oblong or spatulate, entire, fleshy, obscurely veined, punctate; flowers vary from above mentioned species to species, from light blue to white, axillary, solitary, on long slender pedicles; fruits ovoid, acute, 2-celled, 2-valved capsules, tipped with style base; seeds minute, numerous. The whole of this weed is useful in complications of Kapha and Vata, stomach disorder, skin diseases, sterility, cold, fever, spleen enlargement, ascites, painful urination, neuralgia, insanity, lack of stamina and most of all general debility. To prevent all the above complications in a body’s system, one can consume this weed herb, as a green preparation along with brinjal and drumstick, a semi-dry gravy green curry. To know about the manifold identity of the BRAHMI, the interested person will have to go through, Books; ‘MADANAVINODAM’ and many more but here are a few name which were used in different regions as BRAHMI. This weed grows almost in the same condition and area and surroundings as the Indian dub grass grows all over India. People in some tribal areas also grow them for their daily requirement of the greens. It is claimed that when taken in the regular basis it can keep us immune to all types of inflammations, scabies, bronchitis, lumbago myalgia, leucorrhoea and most of all away from general debility as a result of which we suffer of all the above sickness. The whole plant of this specie is consumable which is bitter and astringent in taste but rich in the characteristics of cooling constituents. A spoon full of these weeds juices in our daily diet will be required to keep a person disease free and in good health. It is not necessary to prepare the juices and take them; it is said that one can just pick up or pluck up a few blades of grasses or a twig with few leaves and flowers while on our morning or evening walk. And after chewing for a few minutes say, for about five minutes we can swallow the juices and throw out the residue. Page - 53 It can be done at any time of the day, not necessarily in the morning or evening. While Dub grass can heal us of wounds and nose bleeding. Pitta immediately the Punarva can keep us away from acute jaundice and cough and de-hydration related sicknesses. If really we would try and understand them then instead of carrying the first aid box for every thing we would first give these little wonders of mother nature the chance to cure us. But off course it should be our priority to not become sick at all, by using the above greens regularly. Let us try to treat the plant world with proper respect and conserve them by making them a definite part of our life. We have refused till now with few exceptions of dedicated souls, engaged in the preservations of the natural world without any expectations, but if our inability to recognise and protect them continues which is virtually on the verge of extinction, it is sure that we also will not be able to save our own species from extinction.
